Beginners Aikido Course

Try your hand at a Japanese martial art. We will have a 6 week series of beginner classes for people interested in starting or coming back to Aikido. These classes aim to give you a basic understanding of how to fall safely and some basic techniques in a fun and stress free environment. The aim of the course is to give you a foundation in Aikido so you can continue your practice in our standard classes.

Our offer is 6 classes for €50 and they can be taken on either Monday or Thursdays. After a week or two, for those that are feel up for it you are welcome to come twice a week.

Philippe Gouttard started Aikido in 1970 and has trained with many of the top Japanese masters, such as Tamura, Noro, Kobayashi, Asai and Yamaguchi². He has also been a close student of Christian Tissier for over 40 years. Philippe Gouttard is known for his dynamic and fluid Aikido, as well as his deep understanding of the principles and concepts behind the techniques. He is also a qualified osteopath and has a keen interest in the connection between Aikido and bodywork. Philippe Gouttard teaches regularly in France and abroad, and has a loyal following of students who appreciate his generosity, humor and kindness¹³. Our friends in Annecy are once again hosting an international seminar in May 2023.

The event will have 12 teachers from all over Europe. We will all meet together with one common dream, to share with a 3-day seminar of fun, sweat and generous aikido practice.

These teachers have in common a following or to have followed the teaching of the same teacher, Philippe Gouttard.

Interested in learning Aikido?

Now is your chance! We are starting a 6 week beginners course where we will introduce you to the basics of aikido, teach you to fall safely and get you ready for regular practise. To start practising all you require are some loose clothing like a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms.

The classes will run every Monday from 7:30pm to 9pm and will cost €50 for the 6 classes.*

*Please note, our classes are adult only (18+). Also if Mondays are not suitable please reach out as we can accommodate beginners in all classes.

We are heading to Paris in January to see Yoko Okamoto Shihan. Yoko is a great Aikido instructor and we have fond memories from her Seminar in Edinburgh and Kyoto. If anyone is interested in joining us do let us know. Most people have arranged flights and accommodation separately but we can share our details. Most are flying Friday and back on Sunday evening.
